Bell Helicopters approved that Titan Spring has met the requirements of QPS 100, QPS 102, and QPS 200.
Titan Spring is now an approved Bell Helicopter Supplier.
Bell Helicopters approves Titan Spring, Inc. for one process on a one day survey. The surveyor loved what he saw, called his boss, got approval, and came back in a few weeks with an audit team of 4 people approving us for the 3 QPS specifications listed above. It was a first for Bell Helicopters but not for Titan as it has happened before with or prime Aerospace Contractors.
Bell Helicopters recognized after speaking with employees of Titan Spring, Inc. that we were far more than just a spring manufacturer. Titan’s wide range of capabilities and can do approach appeals to many companies in search of a contractor that can take on different projects.
Titan Spring has been a supplier to Hughes Helicopters before it sold to Mac Donnell Douglas Helicopters and, continued on when Boeing purchased the company to this day.
In addition to coil springs Titan has the in house capability to manufacture flat metal springs, formed wires, flat washers, Belleville washers, wave washers, metal stamping’s with or without tooling. Welded wire assemblies and CNC machining.
Customer requests are pretty much what got us to expand our capabilities because they could not find someone to do a process. Like the medical customer who manufactured surgically implanted pacemakers who has a supplier for the tiny leaf spring and another who did the CNC machining They had nobody to weld the spring inside the machined part. We still weld the assembly for them to this day.
Machining done on this part using our HAAS Vf-1 CNC mill and is made of aluminum employing several machining operations including threading. It measures roughly two inches square by 3/8 inch. Our mill has a fourth axis attachment for more complex machine operations. Short runs are our specialty as with our other products aviation and military spares are the world we have lived in since 1957.
Electronic Discharge Machining or EDM is another process that Titan performs with our Mitsubishi RA 90 machine. The machine does double duty creating precise machining in our die shop for metal stamping tooling and also cutting thin metal for parts. The machine can cut through thin stainless foil used for shims or gaskets without tearing the material. Delicate parts used on the space programs many times require special handling to avoid damage.
Titan Spring has expanded our CNC machining capability adding a 4th axis to our HAAS machining center. The 4th axis allows us to do more operations during the machining cycle with minimal setup. Our customers changing needs necessitated Titan expanding our capabilities to include CNC machining. Titan has provided custom assemblies for our customers since our beginning 60 plus years ago. Originally we outsourced the machining operations to qualified sources and still do on some operations we cannot do on the HAAS machine. To control the lead times better it made sense to purchase our own machine.
Titan also has approved CNC machining sources to outsource operations that we cannot do in house. AS9100 requirements are flowed down to these contractors and parts are 100% dimensional inspected by Titan QA personnel. Documentation and certifications are checked for compliance to the customers blue print or specifications.
Since 2007 Titan has consistently achieved certification to the AS9100 standard. Starting with revision “B” followed by “C” and now as of March 2018 revision “D”. There have been no major findings charged against Titan ever! We are committed to the standard and constantly do internal audits to insure compliance in every aspect of our company.
